Jen had, after almost 6 years of dating, never received red roses from Paul, because he fancied himself more original than buying your standard, cliché, red roses. Yellow, peach, and white roses were all nice, but not what Jen now wanted. She had grown impatient.

August 2005, in Bergen, Norway, Paul buys 30 red roses with a single white rose in the middle (pictured). After being stuffed in his backpack for nearly 14 hours, Paul and Jen find themselves at sunset on top of one of the many picturesque mountains overlooking the fjord, and Paul finds the moment for which he’s been waiting. He gives Jen the roses; the white rose has a “Pull me” card attached to it. She finds another note attached to the stem of the white rose explaining, “In a world of red roses, you stand out like a single, beautiful white rose. Let me be your thorny stem and we’ll continue to grow together. I love you.” A ring, a moment of disbelief, tears, a “yes,” a hug, and a kiss all followed shortly thereafter. Jen and Paul were finally engaged!
